Plan Your Ute Canopy Fitout

No two ute canopy fitouts need the same equipment. A metro tradie may only need a dual battery, inverter, outlets and lighting. A mobile mechanic or remote technician may also need Starlink, solar charging, UHF communications, an air compressor, a fridge and high-output work lights.

We will check your vehicle, canopy layout and expected electrical load before recommending a setup. You will receive a clear quote covering the agreed equipment and installation work. No mystery switches and no collection of cables that only one bloke in the workshop understands.

  • Custom fitouts for work utes, service vehicles and fleet vehicles
  • Systems designed around your equipment and daily power use
  • Options for existing canopies and new vehicle builds
  • Clear quote provided before installation starts

Highly recommended!
We had starlink hard wired to the roof rack of our 79 series.
Great quote and no long wait.
Outstanding service by Dion who took time to explain everything clearly and went above and beyond by calling into my home after work to install a switch that wasn’t available at the install.
Great team, amazing service and clean & tidy workshop.
Thank you Dion, a pleasure to do business with you. Kerri
Absolutely stoked with the 12V setup Kody did for us at Voltaic Welshpool! The workmanship is next level, everything is incredibly neat, well thought out and finished to such a high standard.

Kody handled everything from organising the setup to problem solving any issues that came up, and nothing was ever too much trouble. He genuinely went above and beyond, even tidying up and reorganising existing cords and wiring that weren’t part of the job just to make the whole setup look clean and professional.

You can tell Kody takes a huge amount of pride in his work and his attention to detail is unreal. Couldn’t recommend him highly enough and we’ll 100% be going back for any future 12V work!
I recently had Voltaic install a dual battery system, additional Anderson plugs, and a UHF radio in my vehicle, and I couldn't be happier with the result.

From start to finish, the team was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly thorough. What really stood out was their communication throughout the entire process. They took the time to confirm every detail before proceeding, ensuring the installation was completed exactly the way I wanted it. That level of care and attention to detail gave me complete confidence that my vehicle was in good hands.

The quality of the workmanship is outstanding. Everything has been installed neatly, professionally, and functions perfectly. It's clear that the team takes great pride in their work and genuinely cares about customer satisfaction.

A special shout-out to Jaimee and Harry. Your customer service, expertise, and commitment to getting everything right made the experience exceptional. You both went above and beyond, and it was a pleasure dealing with you.

If you're looking for a reliable and professional auto electrical company, I highly recommend Voltaic. I'll definitely be returning for any future auto electrical work.

Thanks again, Jaimee, Harry, and the entire Voltaic team for a fantastic job!

Our Ute Canopy Fitout Process

A reliable ute canopy electrical fitout starts with the equipment you need to run. We check the power requirements, available space and vehicle charging system before selecting the battery, inverter and accessories. 01

01

Tell Us How You Use Your Ute

Let us know what you drive, what type of canopy you have and where the vehicle works. A metro service ute has different needs from a vehicle spending several days away from mains power. 02

02

List Your Canopy Equipment

We identify each tool charger, fridge, pie warmer, laptop, light, compressor and communications device that needs power. Bring the equipment details or photos if you are unsure about its power use. 03

03

Calculate the Electrical Load

We work out how much power the equipment may draw and how long you expect to use it. This helps us recommend a suitable battery capacity, charging system and inverter. 04

04

Inspect the Vehicle and Canopy

We check the available mounting space, canopy construction, existing wiring and cable routes. We also look for old or unsuitable wiring that may affect the new installation. 05

05

Plan the Canopy Layout

We position batteries, outlets, switches and accessories where they remain protected and easy to reach. The layout also needs to work around drawers, tools and equipment access. 06

06

Confirm the Fitout and Quote

We provide a quote covering the agreed system and installation work. You can choose the core equipment first and add optional accessories where the budget allows. 07

07

Install and Test the System

Our auto electricians install the components, protect the circuits and test the connected equipment. We check charging performance, battery monitoring, outlets, lighting and accessories before handover. 08

08

Show You How It Works

We explain the switches, outlets, battery monitor and charging system. We will also show you how to manage the electrical load and avoid draining the auxiliary battery during long periods away from the vehicle.

FAQs

What can you include in a ute canopy fitout?

A ute canopy fitout can include a dual battery system, inverter, 12V outlets, USB charging, canopy lighting, toolbox lighting, a fridge, pie warmer, Starlink, UHF radio, solar power, an air compressor, work lights and cameras. We recommend the equipment based on how you use the vehicle.

Do you manufacture ute canopies?

Our main role is fitting electrical systems and accessories into ute canopies. If you already have a canopy or plan to purchase one, contact us before the build begins. Early planning can make it easier to allow space for batteries, cable routes, outlets and electrical equipment.

Can you fit out my existing ute canopy?

Yes, we can work with many existing aluminium and steel ute canopies. We will inspect the available space, canopy construction, existing equipment and wiring before confirming the installation options.

How much does a ute canopy fitout cost?

The cost depends on the battery capacity, inverter size, charging system and accessories included. A basic battery and lighting setup will cost less than a remote-work system with Starlink, solar, communications, refrigeration and multiple power outlets. We will provide a quote after discussing your vehicle and equipment.

What size battery does my ute canopy need?

The right battery size depends on the equipment you want to run and how long you use it while the vehicle is parked. A fridge and a few lights use less power than several tool chargers, a large inverter and Starlink operating together. We calculate the expected load before recommending the battery.

What size inverter do I need for tool chargers?

The inverter must handle the combined wattage and start-up demand of the equipment you plan to use. Send us photos of the rating labels on your chargers and appliances. We can use those details to recommend a suitable inverter.

Will the canopy equipment flatten my starter battery?

A correctly installed dual battery system runs the canopy accessories from an auxiliary battery. This helps protect the starter battery so you can still start the ute after using lights, chargers or a fridge while parked.

Can you add solar panels to a ute canopy?

Yes, solar can support the auxiliary battery when the vehicle remains parked for long periods. The available solar capacity depends on the canopy roof space, panel position, shading and battery system. We can also install an input for a portable solar panel where that suits the vehicle better.

Yes. We can plan the Starlink mounting, 12V power supply and cable routing around the ute and canopy. Starlink still needs a suitable service plan and a clear view of the sky when in use.

Can you upgrade an existing canopy electrical system?

Yes, subject to an inspection. We can assess the current battery, charger, inverter, wiring and circuit protection before recommending an upgrade. Older components may need replacement if they cannot support the new equipment safely.

Can you fit out a single ute or an entire fleet?

We can fit out one ute or develop a repeatable specification for a commercial fleet. Fleet fitouts can use a consistent layout and equipment list while allowing for differences between ute models, canopies and working roles.

How long does a ute canopy fitout take?

The installation time depends on the system size, canopy access, existing wiring and accessory availability. A basic setup takes less time than a full remote-work fitout. We will provide an expected timeframe with your quote.

Is there a warranty on the canopy fitout?

Warranty coverage depends on the products and installation work included in the fitout. We will explain the applicable product and workmanship warranty terms when preparing your quote.
